Summer School “The New Orientalism: Understanding the Paradoxes of Mass Tourism in Southeast Asia”

Department of Anthropology, Universitas Gadjah Mada, in collaboration with Université de Montréal, is organizing an international summer school entitled “The New Orientalism: Understanding the Paradoxes of Mass Tourism in Southeast Asia.”

This program invites graduate students to critically examine the social, cultural, and political dynamics of mass tourism in Southeast Asia through a series of lectures, academic discussions, and field-based learning activities. The summer school aims to foster rigorous scholarly engagement and interdisciplinary dialogue on contemporary tourism issues in the region.
